Spain: Protesters interrupt Falles festival in Valencia
Protesters gathered during the Falles festival in central Valencia, Spain, on Friday, in a demonstration organised by the far-right movement Grup d'Accio Valencianista (GAV), to have the Falles festival recognised as UNESCO world heritage, and against the 'Catalanisation' of Valencian traditions.
The protest coincided with a rally for the Radio Television Valenciana (RTVV), which was the first regional public broadcaster to be closed down in Spain in 2013.
The Falles is an annual festival in the city where intricate giant cardboard effigies, or falles, are created and paraded before they are burnt as part of the celebrations.
