Mexico: Hundreds march for fair trial and human rights of 'drug lord' El Chapo
Supporters of imprisoned Sinaloa Cartel associate Joaquin Guzman Loera, aka 'El Chapo', rallied in the syndicate's founding city Culiacan on Wednesday, insisting on Guzman Loera's right to a fair trial.
Following leads from the Operation Dark Water investigation, Guzman Loera was captured by US and Mexican authorities on suspicion of drug trafficking and murder February 22.
Police had seized 340 kilograms (750 lbs) of cocaine, and caught three other Sinaloa Cartel members along with El Chapo, who were caught out in a predawn raid in the city of Mazatlan.
The US Treasury Department considered Guzman as the most powerful drug trafficker in the world. Escaping a 20-year-jail-sentence in Guatemala during 1993 after bribing prison guards, he was on Interpol's most wanted list, and the US government offered $5m (€3.6m) reward for information to lead to his capture.
