      USA: Ukraine's UN ambassador refuses to give up position

      The Ukrainian ambassador to the United Nations, Yuri Sergeyev, said that he would continue in his position as he represented the people, not any particular government, during a press conference in New York on Monday. The ambassador also said that his people were not struggling for integration into the European Union, but in defence of their rights.

      Earlier in the day, a senior advisor to the Secretary-General, Robert Serry, met with the new speaker of the parliament to assure him of the UN's support for what he called a 'Ukrainian-led' government.
