USA: Buttercup, the cyborg duck with a 3D-printed foot
Buttercup, a duck at the Feathered Angels Waterfowl Sanctuary in the town of Arlington, Tennessee, walked with its fully 3D-printed replacement foot earlier in February, after the rescue centre managed to purchase its own in-house 3D printer.
The duck had been rescued by the sanctuary and initially given a partly 3D-printed, partly moulded foot to tackle a birth defect, which led to the amputation of one of Buttercup's feet. The sanctuary finally managed to purchase an in-house 3D printer, after setting up a fundraising campaign, which will allow the regular replacement of the foot.
