Ukraine: Kharkiv Mayor rejects claims he had fled the country
Mayor of Kharkiv, Gennady Kernes, spoke with journalists when he arrived back in his constituency on Sunday, after having flown to Russia where he said he had "met with friends".
On arrival at Kharkiv Airport, Kernes rejected claims made by the media on Saturday that he had fled the country and stressed to journalists gathered there that he was prepared to work with new government authorities formed in Kiev in matters relating to his city.
Kernes added that he would obey the laws adopted by the Verkhovna Rada these days unless they are appealed or declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.
