      In a briefing on current affairs, White House press secretary Jay Carney stated the position of the US and President Barack Obama towards the Ukraine and the release of Yulia Tymoshenko on Friday in Washington DC.

      Carney said US diplomacy concerning the situation in Ukraine was solely in the interest of the Ukrainian people, and not US or Russian interests.

      When asked about the situation regarding former Ukrainian prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko, Carney acknowledged that the US president is hopeful of her release as she needs medical treatment.
