Protesters and police faced off Wednesday in the Mexican city of Toluca, ahead of a visit by US President Barack Obama for the North American Leaders Summit Meeting. The protesters came from different organisations, including the former electricians' union (Sindicato Mexicano de Electricistas), and various anarchist groups, clashing with police around noon local time (18.00 GMT).
Obama's attendance at the summit in Toluca coincides with the 20th anniversary of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which formed a market of 470 million people from Canada to Mexico. Today. it represents more than 30 percent of global economic output.
