      USA: White House urges Yanukovych to de-escalate situation

      White House Press Secretary, Jay Carney, gave a press conference at the White House in Washington D.C. on Tuesday following a renewed outbreak of violence in Ukraine.

      When asked about the escalation of violence between police and protesters on Kiev's Independence Square, Carney said that the White House was "appalled" by developments, and called on President Viktor Yanukovych to "immediately engage" in dialogue with opposition leaders in order to find a peaceful resolution.
