UK: Flood defences bolstered as floods continue to rise
British Army troops were busy laying hundreds of sandbags in the flood-hit Berkshire village of Wraysbury Tuesday. Over 100 troops arrived just after 12:00 GMT to take part in rescue operations alongside police and local volunteers, and were assisted by dozens of volunteers.
The soldiers will also be delivering medicine to residents in need and have started knocking on doors as part of assessing how many people remain and how many need to be evacuated.
Wraysbury is one of the villages along the River Thames to be hit hardest by flooding over the past several days. There are 14 flood warnings currently in effect for Berkshire, Surrey and Somerset. It is estimated that over 1,000 evacuations have taken place along the Thames.
