UK: Floods force desperate defence of homes

Several homes were lost and residents were forced to labour building sand bag barricades to stop flood waters claiming others when new storms hit the village of East Lyng in south west England on Sunday. Residents criticised that government response to the crisis, which they called inadequate.

Communities minister Eric Pickles blamed current flooding on inadequate dredging, which he said was the result of poor advice from the government's Environment Agency.
