      Latvia: Russian-speakers demand continued education in their language

      A rally in support of education in Russian was held in front of the Latvian government buildings in Riga on Tuesday. The action was organised by the Union of Latvian Russians political party and was attended by about 100 people.

      Latvian prime minister Laimdota Straujuma recently said that sooner or later all public schools in the country would be teaching only in the Latvian language. As stated in the government's declaration, the total transition will happen on September 1, 2018.
