Cuba: FARC wants to give up armed struggle, says Catatumbo
Guerrilla fighter and member of the leadership of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Columbia (FARC) Jorge Torres Victoria, also known as Pablo Catatumbo, said that a possible political party would have the same characteristics as FARC, only it would be unarmed, while giving an interview in Havana last week.
"We are not talking about handing in the guns; we are talking about laying down the guns, when the situation changes and they are not needed anymore," he said. "The purpose of FARC is not the armed fight; the purpose of FARC is social change. Guns are not an end in itself; guns are a tool for social change."
FARC is currently taking part in peace negotiations with the government of Colombia.
