USA: Keystone XL protesters lay pipeline around Congress

Environmental activists marched a giant 100-yard inflatable pipeline around the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday to demand President Obama reject the proposed Keystone XL pipeline that will carry oil extracted from Canadian tar sands.

Activists chanted anti-pipeline slogans and carried the inflatible pipeline with the words "Pipeline President or Climate Champion?"

One of the march's organisers, Eric Pica said, "President Obama has a really important decision to make and thats whether or not to approve the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline out of Canada. And this state of the union is one of the most important addesses he will make this year. And he has the capacity to say no to the Keystone pipeline, and that should be number one on his climate plan."

The march comes ahead of the annual state of the union address which will be delivered by President Obama on Tuesday night.
