Ukraine: Riot police drive protesters out of occupied government HQ
Riot police and Berkut special forces forcefully evicted anti-government protesters from the regional administration building in Cherkassy in Ukraine late on Thursday evening, regaining control of the building. Local reports have put at sixteen the number of people detained in the process, including one woman, while another had to be rushed to hospital after sustaining injuries.
Units from the private Gryphon Security group were sent in as reinforcements to the building when ten militia officers locked themselves in on the third floor after hundreds of anti-government protesters stormed the building and occupied the first and second floors. The building has suffered significant damage, with doors and windows smashed and offices damaged.
