Russia: Syrian regime change not part of Geneva I agreement - Lavrov
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke of his disappointment at the UN's withdrawal of its invitation for Iran to join the Geneva II during a press conference in Moscow Tuesday. Lavrov drew attention to the fact that a broad range of countries had been invited to the conference, some of whom are involved in the supply of arms to the Syrian opposition.
The Russian Foreign Minister also stressed that the emphasis on political change, which supporters of the opposition say is the focus of the upcoming Geneva II conference, is a misinterpretation of the outcome of Geneva I, and that the outcome is instead supposed to be an agreement of peace among all warring factions involved in the armed conflict.
