Russia: Anti-fascists march in memory of neo-Nazi murders
Around 1,000 protesters took part in a march called 'Together Against Fascism' in Moscow on Sunday. Carrying placards and pictures of Stanislav Markelov and Anastasiya Baburova, the protesters departed from Novopushkinsky Square and headed to Gogol Boulevard. Upon reaching Gogol Boulevard, several protesters laid wreaths at the house where the lawyer and journalist were murdered.
Markelov, a human rights lawyer, was shot dead in Moscow in 2009, while Baburova, a young reporter who worked for Novaya Gazeta newspaper was killed with him. Two suspects were later detained by security forces, a 29-year-old by the name of Nikita Tikhonov and his girlfriend, 24-year-old Eugenia Khasis.
Tikhonov was sentenced to life imprisonment in May 2011, while Khasis was sentenced to 18 years.
