Finland: Can unfit tech nerd make it to Sochi Olympics?
American-born Paul Bragiel has traded in venture capitalism in Silicon Valley to train for the upcoming Sochi Winter Olympics, where he aims to compete for Colombia as a cross-country skier. Now training near the Finnish town of Kittila, the previously out-of-shape San Franciscan decided one year ago he wanted to try and make it as an Olympian.
He’s training to enter this year's Winter Olympics as a member of the Colombian squad, having recently become a Colombian citizen. However, after getting ill recently he missed out on qualification and is looking for other ways to enter the Sochi Games, which start on February 7.
On swapping the San Franciscan sunshine to have a stab at the Olympics on behalf of Colombia, Bragiel said: “Colombia very quickly thought: “hey this is an amazing project and we want to help you make your dream come true", so within about three or four months we went through all the paper work and I became a Columbian citizen and now I’m the first official cross-country skier in the history of the country.”
