Spain: Clashes erupt in Burgos after anti-gentrification protest
Clashes erupted in the Spanish city of Burgos following anti-gentrification protests, on Saturday night. Protesters destroyed at least five banking offices, shops, telephone booths, rubbish bins, and attacked police officers deployed to stop the vandalism.
At least 23 people have been detained by police, with over a dozen injured from clashes between police and protesters. The demonstration follows a protest from the previous night, when protesters rallied against the construction of a new boulevard in the district of Gamonal and the alleged corruption scandal around the project.
Police used teargas to disperse the protesters, brandished rubber bullet guns and escorted anyone found in or near Vitoria Street. There had been at least 300 protesters at the demonstration before the clashes.
