Egypt: Clashes in Giza rage despite protest ban
Protesters supporting the Egyptian army held a march in the city of Giza on Friday despite a ban on demonstrations. The protest follows alleged violence at Al-Arbaeen Square in Suez, in which security forces claim they were assaulted by Muslim Brotherhood supporters.
Protesters face the possibility of five years in jail for participating in pro-Brotherhood protests following the group being declared a "terrorist" organisation in December. The National Alliance to Support Legitimacy, a coalition of 40 Islamist groups supportive of the Muslim Brotherhood, has promised to increase dissent ahead of the constitutional referendum scheduled to take place on January 14 and 15.
