Russia: Putin all ears for children's Sochi songs

Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the new building of the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg Tuesday, where he popped in for a rehearsal of the Consolidated Children's Choir of Russia and heard a song that will be performed at the closing ceremony of the upcoming Winter Olympics.

Putin was met at the Mariinsky Theatre by the artistic director, chairman of the All-Russian Choral Society Valery Gergiev, as well as the chairman of the board of trustees of society, Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets and several children from the choir. Children told the President that they came from different regions of Russia, including Yakutia, Chukotka, Makhachkala and Moscow.

The Consolidated Children's Choir of Russia, formed on the basis of a professional competition jury and consisting of thousands of children from all regions of Russia, will participate in the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Sochi in February. It is planned that the children's choir will also record the soundtrack of the final song of the Winter Olympics, with the recording to take place at the Mariinsky Theatre Thursday.
