Russia: EMERCOM jet arrives at Volgograd airport
An EMERCOM jet dispatched to carry medical equipment and professionals to aid people wounded in a suicide bomb attack on a train station arrived at Volgograd airport, Sunday.
The aid flight had been specially requested by President Putin.
The blast, which took place earlier in the afternoon, has so far claimed the lives of 16 people.
According to the National-Anti-terrorism Committee, Oksana Aslanova, a female suicide bomber from Dagestan, is suspected of carrying out the attack. However, evidence found at the scene indicates that the perpetrator of the attack was male. Investigations are ongoing.
The NAC maintain that the bomber detonated a concealed explosive device near metal detectors inside the station.
An undetonated F1 grenade has been recovered from the blast site.
