France: Horse tax protesters block traffic outside European Parliament

Hundreds of protesters held a rally in front of the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Monday, protesting against a tax measure that will raise VAT from seven to 20 percent on equestrian centres and horse rearing companies.

"I have a company, I have an employee that I'm going to fire," said one protester, Alain Bouchon. "It's my child, it's my son. He's the apple of my eye, who I encouraged to get into the horse activities. I took him into the company, hoping that he would take over our business in 10 years and now I'm going to have to ask him to leave."

The protesters released balloons, shouted slogans against Hollande's government and even blocked the city tram line.
