Russia: Police seize amber stash worth millions
Police discovered a hoard containing roughly five tonnes of amber in Russia's Kaliningrad region on Monday, with an estimated value of over one billion rubles (EUR 22,250,341).
The stash was discovered during a search of an amber processing workshop in the region's Yantarny settlement, when police realised that the basement door had been bricked up.
Some 227 bags of amber in total were retrieved from the property, weighing about 5100 kilograms (11243 lb). Among the seized amber were several stones weighing over 1 kilogram (3 lb).
The operation was a part of a criminal investigation against the former owner of the LLC "Specialist" Viktor Bogdan, who is suspected of mass fraud.
