UK: Anti-fracking protesters leave 17-metre wind turbine blade at drilling company's doorstep
Fifty people used a wind turbine blade to block the entrance to IGas's exploratory drilling site in Barton Moss, Greater Manchester, on Monday. The protesters proceeded to unload and assemble the 17-metre (55-ft) long blade until hey were spotted by a security guard who called the police, but the officers who arrived on the scene were too late to prevent the blockade from being set up.
One protester spoke about police treatment of protesters, "They have pushed and shoved elderly women, they have thrown an elderly disabled man into a ditch, breaking his leg".
The campaigners left the heavy wind turbine blade in place blocking the entrance, complete with a large red Christmas bow. All vehicle access to the site was severely disrupted due to the 1.5-tonne turbine blade, which cannot be moved without help from large numbers of people or specialist equipment.
