      Ukraine: Crowds brave cold to support Yanukovych and Azarov

      Ukraine: Crowds brave cold to support Yanukovych and Azarov

      Large crowds of pro-government supporters have settled in for another rally in Kiev's Mariinsky Park on Monday. Many people are said to have travelled from across Ukraine for the rallies called by President Yanukovych's Party of Regions party. As in Independence Square, bonfires, a small chapel and stands giving out hot drinks have been set up to keep the protesters comfortable in the winter weather.

      Lashim Yuri, a Party of Regions officer, explained his support for Yanukovych, saying: "Our president was legally elected, which means that he can't be removed before elections; that's why I think we need to sit down at the negotiating table and not stage a coup in the state."

      President Yanukovych will travel to Moscow on Tuesday for a meeting with Russian president, Vladimir Putin. The leaders are set to chair a Russian-Ukrainian interstate commission session, expected to result in the signing of several bilateral agreements.
