State of Palestine: Poorly run zoos ease daily life for Gazans
A month after two lion cubs died in Gaza's Bissan park zoo only days after their birth, Gazan children are again getting their curiosity satisfied among lions and monkeys, taking a break from an otherwise difficult daily life. The zoos director Shadi Hamad says if it weren't for the Gaza Strip's four zoos, local children would never get to experience the exotic animals, but admits that the zoos are poorly run as staff lacks experience and resources are sparse.
Although it is difficult to get animals past its tight borders, Sameh has taken advantage of the unsanctioned tunnels from Egypt to get animals into Gaza. A lion named Sabrina was brought through the tunnels, but did not survive due to the limited veterinary care.
