Russia: Siberia and Far East development is a national priority, Putin

Russia's President, Vladimir Putin gives his annual state-of-the-nation address to parliament in Moscow on Thursday.

On the economy, Putin commented, "Yes Russia is one of the world's top 5 eoconomies by rate of economic growth, but by efficiency of labour we are 2 times behind the world's leading economies. We need to close this gap, and for that we need to imploy the well-known growth factors such as a good quality system of education and a flexible labour market, good investment climate and a good climate for technical innovation."

He added, "Once again, I will underline resources, states and private businesses need to develop themselves to reach the strategic goals. For example is the development of Siberia and the far aast, its our national priority for the 21st Century. The challenges that we are facing are unprecedented in scope and thats why our approaches should be non-conventional. We have also come up with a some tax benefits for the projects in the far east and for the income tax, and I think we can cover, we can introduce the same tax benefits for the whole of the eastern Siberia and the republic of Hakasia."
