Germany: Berlin says goodbye to Mandela
Hundreds of people attended a memorial service in honour of former South African president and Peace Nobel prize laureate Nelson Mandela on Wednesday in Berlin's Cathedral.
The South African ambassador in Germany, Makhenkesi Arnold Stofile, addressed the crowd, along with many other speakers, to say their last goodbye to the South African leader. Stofile expressed his admiration for Mandela saying, "So, he was our example, he was our inspiration and indeed, he was our father. The father of the nation."
Many attendees wrote messages dedicated to Madiba on two memorial books displayed for the occasion. One of the attendees, Jessika Banzouzi, explained what Mandela meant for her: "A strong hand in charge who has been leading the country and the nation towards freedom and I want to have this kind of Mandela impact in my life on a daily basis and, you know, live this philosophy that he represented."
Former German president Horst Kohler also attended the memorial service, which was conducted by Altbischof Dr. Martin Kruse.
