Russia: Putin sets sights on military presence in the Arctic
Russian President Vladimir Putin chaired a meeting of the Board of Defence Ministry in Moscow, Tuesday. The president reviewed the results of military force developments in 2013 and set key goals for the future.
Putin stressed the importance of boosting Russia's presence in Arctic region: "Please pay special attention to military infrastructure and military presence in the Arctic. I'd like to dwell on this subject a bit longer. Russia is actively developing this promising region, and we will need all the leverage we can have to protect our security and national interests there."
Putin was positive regarding this year's military forces' series of unexpected drills. The president himself introduced this idea this year.
Sudden drills are expected to be held next year.
