Ukraine: Barricades ripped down after protesters dig in

Police dismantled barricades on Akademika Bohomoltsia Street in Kiev leading to the Interior Ministry compound on Tuesday morning. Protesters were pushed out of their temporary fortification in order to allow an engineering team in with cutting torches and heavy equipment to remove the improvised blockade.

Clashes broke out between riot police and protesters encamped around Kiev's Luteranskaya street during a police operation involving hundreds of officers coordinating to push out protest camps at key locations on Tuesday morning.

Early reports from journalists on the scene spoke of around 15 people injured during the confrontation. Earlier in the day, police surrounded several of the camps, removing some of the temporary barricades and debris with which the demonstrators had fortified their positions.
