Ukraine: Occupiers of Kiev City Council take shelter for night
Protesters occupying the Kiev City Council building known as the Kyivrada on Independence Square prepared for the night ahead on Monday evening, getting food, exchanging information, charging phones and sorting through piles of donated clothes to stay warm.
Hundreds of protesters have travelled from other regions of Ukraine to take part in the demonstrations that are calling for the resignation of both the government and the president, with many more still arriving at the doors of the council building during nightfall.
Kiev mayor Aleksandr Popov has warned that blocking the administration's work may result in delays in payments to public sector workers, food, heating, water, power and heating shortages, and may disrupt the work of hospitals, schools and nurseries.
