Honduras: Castro calls followers onto the street to force recount
Thousands of supporters of defeated Honduran leftist presidential candidate and leader of the Freedom Party Xiomara Castro rallied on Sunday in the capital Tegucigalpa. Activists said they refused to accept the results of the presidential election, alleging widespread electoral fraud.
The country's electoral tribunal pronounced Juan Orlando Hernandez of the ruling National Party the victor, with around 34 percent of the vote, five percent more than Castro. The electoral commission recognised the existence of some irregularities, although not significant enough to question the poll's results.
Xiomara is the wife of former president Manuel Zelaya, ousted by the military command in 2009.
