Latvia: Candles lit for victims of supermarket disaster
Crowds of people gathered with candles outside a supermarket in Riga to pay their respects after the roof collapsed earlier on Thursday, leaving at least 49 dead.
The reason for the collapse is not currently known, however a winter garden was being built on the roof of the shop.
People paid their respects by lighting candles and leaving flowers whilst volunteers gave out cups of coffee, as many waited for news regarding people thought to have gone missing in the accident.
According to a spokesperson for the Maxima supermarket, five of the shops employees were injured, two in hospital and three had still not been found.
The wreckage is estimated to be around 500 square metres, and is still being cleared by emergency services.
