      Germany: Eastern Partnership has great potential - Merkel

      Germany's parliament held a special session in Berlin on Monday which included a discussion on Germany's relationship with its Eastern neighbours, and the Eastern Partnership.

      Speaking before the Bundestag Merkel said that "the economic and political development of our Eastern neighbours is of great importance, and not only for our partners, but also for the strength and prosperity of the European Union. Therefore, we need to proceed with our dedication to our neighbours."

      She added: "I see great potential in the Eastern Partnership. It is an autonomous instrument of European politics that makes possible a completely new quality to the approach of our Eastern European neighbours."
