Belgium: Ukraine moving closer to EU membership- Ashton
The European Foreign Affairs Council met in Brussels on Monday to discuss the question of Ukraine's membership of the European Union.
The EU’s high representative for foreign affairs, Catherine Ashton, told the press "I think it's fair to say that we're moving forward with the Eastern Partnership. We've seen progress on quite a number of the benchmarks, especially in our discussions on Ukraine."
The conference in Brussels comes ahead of the European Eastern Partnership meeting that convenes in Vilnius, Lithuania on November 28-29. The meeting will discuss the chances of Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan being accepted into the EU.
