      Russia: Families torn apart by Kazan plane crash

      A Boeing 737 passenger aircraft crashed while attempting to land at Kazan airport in Russia on Sunday, killing all 50 passengers and crew on board. Families of the victims gathered at the airport entrance to hear the news of their loved ones, with police and emergency crews shutting down access to the terminal building and runways.

      The son of the president of the region of Tatarstan and the local head of the FSB intelligence agency were reportedly on board the craft, which made an attempt to abort the landing before crashing into the runway.

      The flight, a scheduled passenger service operated by Tatarstan airlines, originated at Moscow's Domodedovo airport.
