Philippines: US forces aid, evacuate Guiuan residents
Residents of Guiuan, one of the regions hardest-hit by Typhoon Haiyan, are receiving aid from the US and being evacuated to safer zones.
The citizens received aid from the USA on Thursday, via VMGR152 planes. So far, the USA has evacuated 1,800 people from Guiuan, many of whom have gone to the safer city of Cebu on military planes, where they will wait to be relocated by international agencies.
The municipality, which is located in Eastern Samar, is located on an isolated peninsula and island. It has a population of around 40,000 people. At least 85 people from the immediate area have been killed during the typhoon, and it is estimated that a further 23 are missing and 931 injured.
