South Korea: President Putin awarded highest rank in Taekwondo
Russian President Vladimir Putin was awarded the highest rank attainable in the martial art Taekwondo in Seoul on Wednesday.
The Russian President, who is currently on an official visit to South Korea, was awarded grandmaster rank in the sport, known as 'ninth dan'. President Putin, who is well-known as a fitness and martial arts enthusiast, also holds a black belt in karate alongside being a champion in the Russian martial art Sambo.
The award was given by Choue Chung-won, head of the World Taekwondo federation. Taekwondo is a popular Korean martial art and Olympic sport, geared towards self-defence.
