Syria: Last KFC restaurant leaves war-torn Damascus
The building of the last Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) in Damascus, Syria, remained close on Thursday. The US fast food chain has now closed all of its Syrian based restaurants, citing economic troubles in the conflict ridden country and a lack of chickens as the reason for the closures. The last restaurant was closed last month.
Foad Saba, the owner of the building formerly used by KFC, spoke about the affect the closure has had on his business. "I don't care about the brand," he said, "I just care about receiving an income from my property."
KFC opened up in Syria in 2006 and remained open despite US imposed sanctions on the country following the 2011 uprisings. The fast food brand currently has 450 restaurants in the Middle East, including restaurants in Saudi Arabia.
