Russia: Putin and IOC president tour key Olympic transport hub
Russian President Vladimir Putin and International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach took part in a ceremony Monday to open a newly built train station in the Russian city of Adler. Adler is a city near Sochi, and will host events during the 2014 Winter Olympics.
The station is planned to eventually become a key rail, automotive, air and sea hub, with a car park capable of supporting 555 automobiles and a marine section. The facility also has links to the Sochi International Airport.
The station stretches for over 23,000 square metres (247,570 square feet), with a capacity for up to 15,000 passengers per hour. The terminal can host up to 2,000 passengers simultaneously. The facility also incorporates several green technologies, such as solar panels to generate electricity.
