Russia: Russia-NATO relations 'lack strategic depth' - Lavrov
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met Ukrainian Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don Monday, a month before Ukraine is set to sign a landmark deal with the European Union. Touching upon various international relations issues, Lavrov noted relations between Russia and NATO sometimes lack strategic depth.
He said: "We have quite an intensive Russia-NATO Council agenda regarding our practical cooperation projects. However, these relations are still lacking strategic depth and understanding of all European nations' interdependence in the issue of security."
Among the other topics the two men discussed included the political situation in Transnistria, bilateral agreements, emerging international challenges and threats, regional conflicts, border disputes, international organisations and other issues. Ukraine, with aspirations of joining the EU, is set to sign an association agreement in late November.
