Georgia: Bakradze opens the polls on election day
Davit Bakradze, presidential candidate from Saakashvili’s ruling United National Movement (UNM), became of first of the 23 candidates to cast his vote on Sunday morning at 5:15 GMT in Tbilisi kindergarten 172.
Bakradze commented, “If Russia is really ready to talk to us as a good neighbour, not as a territory which should be controlled and where troops should be deployed to, we are ready for such dialogue. I’m ready to take into account legitimate interests of Russia, ready to talk to the Russian side on all the questions. But I must repeat: to establish good-neighbour relations both parties should consider each other good neighbours. While 20% of Georgian territory is occupied by Russian forces and there are Russian embassies in Sukhumi and Tskhinval, I’m afraid there can’t be good relations without solving this problem”.
Bakradze is considered the main opponent to former Education Minister Giorgi Margvelashvili of the ruling Georgian Dream coalition party.
