      Spain: Students pour scorn on police baton charge

      Police clashed with university students in the streets of Madrid on Thursday night as a protest against education reforms drifted into violence. Several arrests were made, with local media suggesting some students had been injured.

      Thousands of students had earlier taken part in a march from Ciudad Universitaria, where most faculties of the Complutense and Technical Universities are located, to the rector's office. Police initially blocked protesters, but allowed them to continue marching after a few minutes. Protesters chanted slogans in front of the rector's office before dispersing.
