      Germany: Newly elected parliament meets for the first time

      The newly elected German parliament met for the first time since the general election, Tuesday. The first session came a day ahead of the first formal coalition talks between Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party and the Social Democratic Party (SPD). If the two parties agree the "grand coalition" would have almost 80 percent of all seats in the lower house.

      The newly elected German parliament met for the first time since the general election, Tuesday.
