      Syria: Army units take militant positions near Hama

      Military units attached to the Syrian Army took several villages near the city of Hama in fierce fighting with militant irregulars on Friday, with reports that soldiers destroyed positions in the outlying suburbs of the town of Salamiyah.

      Armed forces units recently re-opened the highway linking Hama to Aleppo after taking the town of Khanaser on October 3. Military reports say militant forces have suffered heavy losses in fighting in the region.
