USA: Panda welcomes visitors to re-opened Washington Zoo

The Smithsonian National Zoo in DC opened two days after the end of the government shutdown. Dozens of zoo lovers welcomed the opening with signs and painted faces. The National Zoo was offering customers different types of discounts on food and certain zoo activities. Just like the Smithsonian museums, the entrance to the zoo is free, which is part of the attraction.

According to DC residents, the city is expensive and it makes money on hotels and taxis, but the main attractions, namely the Smithsonian museums, zoo and National Parks are all free.

DC's spirits have lifted since the shutdown, the city is alive and buzzing with tourists and happy residents. The short term deals made on Wednesday, the 16th day of the shutdown, will fund the US till January 15 and raise the debt ceiling till February 7. Americans are still waiting for a long term deal to be agreed by both sides of the house.
