Divers descended to the bottom of Lake Chebarkul on Wednesday to recover fragments of the Chelyabinsk meteorite that hit the region in February and pierced the ice of Lake Chebarkul.
The giant fragment found of the celestial body weighs from 300 kilos to 500 kilos. It is believed by the Russian Academy of Sciences, that the Chelyabinsk meteorite collided with another space body about 300 million years ago, and it is as old as the solar system.
More than 1,500 people asked for medical assistance after the meteorite's shockwaves blasted through the skies over Chelyabinsk on February 15, 2013.
