Russia: Three more Greenpeace activists denied bail
A court in the Russian city of Murmansk Monday denied bail to the American captain of the Greenpeace ship 'Arctic Sunrise' and two other activists who are among 30 people charged with piracy over a protest at a Russian state-owned Arctic drilling platform. The Murmansk Regional Court's ruling against US citizen Peter Willcox, Argentine Camila Speziale and New Zealander David John Haussmann brings the number of rejected appeals to nine so far.
The activists have so far been charged with piracy, which is punishable by up to 15 years in prison. The Russian Investigative Committee has also declared it had confiscated narcotics from the ship. Investigators have also said that some of the Greenpeace crewmembers could be charged with endangering lives at sea.
