Syria: Food production continues in contrast to media reports
Thousands of public markets and bakeries continue providing food for the Syrian population with a wide selection of fruits, vegetables, fish and meats in Damascus on Friday.
Ayssar Midani, Chairperson of Network of Syrian Scientists Abroad recently arrived in the country - and was shocked to find that local stores are full. Of Syrian origin, Ayssar lives in France where she works hard to counter mainstream media bias. She believes the French press and others are misrepresenting the food shortage situation in Syria.
Mohammed Ghassoun, manager of Al-majd market commented, “Regarding rice and sugar, they are always available. We have never a shortage of them. Our warehouses are always full. Here you have many kinds of rice and here of sugar. Here you have lentils and here another kind of rice.”
