Azerbaijan: Aliyev stole election, says defeated candidate
Defeated presidential candidate Jamil Hasanli of the National Council of Democratic Forces told a press conferencein Baku on Thursday that the elections winner and current president Ilhan Aliyev falsified poll results.
Hasanli stated that the elections are illegitimate and assured that his election headquarters recorded cases of falsification. He said he has also received information on mass election fraud all over the country. Hasanli accused authorities of violating the rights of Azerbaijani people and said that he has already informed the local and international community.
Ilhan Aliyev, who has been president of Azerbaijan since 2003, received 72.76 percent of the vote while Hasanli garnered 7.4 percent. Ten candidates run in the national elections, which took place on Wednesday 9.
